About Kathryn Stewart

Canadian clarinetist Kathryn Stewart is an emerging artist in the classical and jazz music scene. She holds a bachelors degree from the University of British Columbia ('14) and a Master of Music from Memorial University of Newfoundland ('18). Stewart is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts designation at the University of Houston: Moores School of Music.

She has performed in the orchestra pit for several musical productions with the Atlantic Light Theatre company and Opera on the Avalon in St. John's, Newfoundland. Stewart has also joined the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra as an alternate and bass clarinetist for the NSO Pops series, including a concert of Sci-fi movie scores, a Sgt. Peppers-themed Gala concert, and performances of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker.​ In 2017, she was a featured soloist with the Memorial University Chamber Orchestra in Parto Parto from Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and previously in 2010 with the UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Steven Bryant's Ecstatic Waters. 

Stewart shares her love of music through her teaching engagements. She is currently teaching and performing in Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley, and is offering a variety of online workshops and group classes for all ages.​ Her student-centered approach allows students to be active participants in their own learning while providing fun and creative ways to tap into their natural curiosity and excitement for music.

Stewart has received classical training under the guidance of clarinetists Mark Nuccio, Sasha Potiomkin, Cris Inguanti, Francois Houle, Patricia Kostek, Keith Macleod, and Dr. Christine Carter, with whom she explored the topics of performance and educational psychology. ​
